GOBARDHAN is an initiative by the government of India. The Galvanising Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan scheme, launched by the Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation in April 2018, aims to improve the income of rural people through organic manure and energy produced from cattle waste. The GOBARDHAN scheme is part of the Swach Bharat Mission, which is essential to its Phase II.
The Objective of the GOBARDHAN Scheme
It helps Indian farmers manage their cattle and organic waste in agriculture, while also reducing air pollution and nutrient loss, thereby protecting the environment.
They convert organic waste into biogas, creating a new opportunity for income in rural livelihoods.
It also spread awareness to stakeholders through a demonstration, education, and communication strategies.
Benefits of the GOBARDHAN Scheme
This scheme helps improve household incomes for villagers by using biogas to reduce LPG consumption. The groups of SHGs/farmers are also getting the opportunity to diversify their income sources. This initiative reduces vector-borne diseases and supports public health. Mainly, a large amount of solid wastes in the villages are managed by them.
