Nike is a shoe company that was founded in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports, before changing to its current brand – named for the ancient Greek goddess that personified victory or triumph – in 1971.
Marty McFly wore white Nike Bruin sneakers with a red “swoosh” symbol on them in 1985, and usually wore them until he could change to shoes that were appropriate for the time period. Dr. Emmett Brown wore a pair of orange Nike Vandal high-top shoes while at Twin Pines Mall on October 26, 1985.
Since Nike shoes did not exist in 1955, and would not be marketed until 1971, Marty wore a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star sneakers while in that time period. In 1885, however, Marty ended up wearing his Nikes after throwing his cowboy boots away in order to distract a bear, causing Buford’s gang to notice what they thought was strange writing on them — during which Stubble was heard to pronounce the name as “Nee-kay”.
By 2015, Nike was manufacturing power-lacing shoes known as the Nike MAG, which were worn by Marty Jr. and Marty Sr. when he had to pose as his future son. Doc produced these, along with a color-shifting lenticular baseball cap and an auto-adjusting and auto-drying jacket, from a large futuristic Nike Footwear bag he carried aboard the DeLorean time machine.
