Kedarkantha Trek – The Wintry Trek To Attempt In The Himachal Himalayas

Michel October 30, 2025

It’s a combo the best of both worlds and it is nice to be one with nature and being on wheels, so when u have both I opted for Kedarkantha Trek When u have this guide what else do need. The Delhi-to-Delhi 7-day Kedarkantha trek with TrekYaari was all that i had hoped for and much more… It was an ‘ experience of a lifetime ’ which is going to remain memorable forever.

Day 1 : Begin Tripn- Delhi to Manali > Pickup from Airport /Bus Stand.

It all began on the night bus from Delhi in Volvo which we were so looking forward to. The city noise eventually fell away, followed by streets everyone abandoned in the dark as we motored off into similarly deserted backroads with a group of likewise eager beavers (they all had their reasons). There was a buzz and an energy in the room, friendships made on the spot and everyone in that group had signed up excited to do that job. Next morning we arrived at Dehradun (foothill of himalayas – a small hill town). For the air was purest and most grateful, certainly cooler yet than all that the city could furnish. We had a small breakfast and got ready for the bus that would take us to Sankri from where our trek began.

Day 2: Dehradun to Sankri – The valley drive of adventure

Bags packed, fish plaited and boots on; we were physically ready for the host, mentally iffy on our shoes but emotionally shooting sky high ours hearts had already taken wings since this ride would change our lives.

Sankri Road was heavenly as we were taken up the snaking, narrow ascent through thick forests on our bus. With every mile that we put between ourselves and the clogged, hectic streets of Dehradun, we had a little more room to breathe — and better views; scrubby little settlements gave way to dark pine forests. By evening, we had reached Sankri a beautiful little village surrounded by massive mountains, peaks lurking above — it’s time for our adventure now, finally. So it’s all advil around and we’re headed to bed after eating a hot dinner for the hike tomorrow.

Day 3 : Sankri – Juda Ka Talab, An almost magical commute

We started really early today- at 6.45 in the morning and we reached G.M.C (glacier water point) from Dayara meadows around nine.

After a heavy breakfast we were all geared up for the first trek of the day – Juda ka Talab. A 4 km walk through a thick oak pine forest, rustling of leaves and the chirps of birds marked the trail at many places. The snow began not long after we were on our way up and before we knew it, everywhere was covered in a layer of white 🙂 – had The best pootle to work around a Winterwonderland! Juda Ka Talab – snow filled trees all around and a frozen lake- was simply dreamyporn through and through! Here we spread our tent, by the side of the lake, and all was death round us but the very fleeting of fire.

Chanisaur to Juda Ka Talab Day 4: Juda Ka Talab – Kedarkantha Basecamp – All the way uphill!

The next day we were to head to the Kedarkantha Base Camp at an altitude of 11250 ft. The climb was long and steady, through a world blanketed with snow stretching as far as the eye could see to lose themselves on the horizon. And as we climbed, the land grew more lonely (and silent). We were fording, inching our way toward our objective. Just the base camp was incredibly beautiful as we approached — covered in white snow that stretched to the horizon and 360 degrees of mountain peaks. During the evening, it got cold and we sat around a campfire telling about what great trips we have taken in the past. That camp was a family; it was a communion of spirits welded together by the wildness: and that was the mountains.”.

Day 5: Approaching the Kedarkanth Summit

It’s the last push to get on top.

The real challenge, we knew, would be on Day 5, when we hiked up to Kedarkantha peak (12,500 feet). We started running at 3:00 am, our headlamps illuminating the darkness and sparkling stars twinkling high above. It was sharp and cold in the air, but their hearts were not discouraged. The mountain was a tough climb, but the amazing views as we got higher and higher were like nothing I had ever seen. Boy, when we got up there you could have walked on air. The sunrise across the ragged peaks of the Himalayas was stunning — long strokes of gold etching peaks including Swargarohini, Black Peak and Bandarpunch. The scene was so surreal that it seemed like a dream. Dave We sat quietly for a long time taking in the splendor of nature then hiked slowly back down to base camp.

Day 6: Kedarkantha Base Camp – Hargaon (Easy Treking)

An inexpressible walk done amidst the shadows of foliage.

The next day after summit fever, we got down to the tiny Hargaon campsite with its thickly populated tall pines. The way down was much easier again – but just as beautiful- you walk through small snowcovered woods and nice green fields. No noise but the ting of nature in this weird new world. Wrenched from its shell, we ate the ride for dinner that night, our victory lap and kitchen midden.

Day 8 : Sankri

And finally we arrived in Sankri and whisked away by a vehicle transfer on the final day of our trek headed to Dehradun. The drive home in the car was very quiet as I guess everyone were still reliving the trip that we had just taken. There was not much of it left for Dehradun, we were returning out of a dream — a world that after all was other than hewn through the labours of our life-days. At night we returned to the Volvo and slept hygge on memory. During the hourslong bus ride back to town, I had plenty of time to think about what I’d experienced — the grandeur of mountains thousands of feet in the air, days on end spent in close company with fellow trekkers and that sensation you can experience only once you push yourself out of your comfort zone.

So let me just tell you that if not all but -If one desires a perfect trek experience with magnificent views and adventure to offer, then I don’t think anyone would give this a second thought.
