Should You Cancel Your Flight Before a Storm or Strike?
Cancelling too early can cost money, but waiting too long can leave you stuck.
Wait for the airline’s notice
If the airline cancels or significantly changes the flight, you are generally entitled to rebooking or a refund.
Check for travel waivers
Airlines sometimes offer free changes during major weather events. Check their announcements.
Compare your options
- Change date: often cheaper than cancelling
- Cancel and credit: may be offered on some fares
- Wait: can keep refund rights if the airline cancels
Protect other bookings
Check hotel and transfer cancellation rules.
Keep proof
Save screenshots of airline notices and weather alerts.
